Setup
Shuffle the deck of 110 bird cards (8 species).
Form 4 rows of 3 cards each in the center of the table, making sure there are no two cards of the same suit in the same row.
Deal 8 cards to each player to form their starting hand.
Deal 1 additional face-up card to each player, which forms the first species in their collection.
Randomly chooses the starting player.
GOAL
Help the birds organize themselves into flocks and return to the nest. Be the first to collect 7 different species in your scoring area, or 2 species with 3 birds each.
A PLAYER'S TURN
Play birds (mandatory)
Choose a species in your hand and place all cards of that species at either end of one of the 4 rows. If there was already a bird of the same species in that row, you keep all the cards between the two (return to your hand)
Flock (optional)
If you have enough birds of the same species in your hand (depending on the small or large number shown on the cards), you can drop them into your scoring zone: you keep 1 or 2 cards (depending on whether you completed the small or large flock) and discard the rest
END OF ROUND
When a player runs out of cards in their hand, the round ends immediately. All players discard their remaining hand (cards in the scoring area and tableau rows remain). 8 new cards are dealt to each player and a new round begins with the player who emptied their hand as the starting player. If the draw deck runs out, the discards are shuffled to form a new one.
END OF GAME
7 species
Be the first to have at least 1 card of 7 different species in your scoring zone
2 species with 3 birds
Alternatively, be the first to have 3 birds of the same species in 2 different species in your area
No cards to deal
If at any point 8 cards cannot be dealt to all players, even by shuffling the discards, the game ends and whoever has the most birds in their scoring area wins
