Setup

  • Place the board in the center.

  • Place the resources (birch, moss, copper and acorns) and fire and snow tokens within everyone's reach.

  • Shuffle the deck and place 8 cards face up in the Valley (the common supply). Duplicate cards are stacked on the same space so that there are always 8 different cards visible.

  • Each player receives his set of workers, including the Ranger (the special worker), and his personal board with 2 Hearths.

  • Shuffle the Mission cards and place them on the board. Place the Big Critters cards on the mountain.

  • Place starter snow on board as directed by prep.

Rules

  1. 1

Each turn, the player takes 1 of 3 possible actions: place a worker, play a card, or prepare for the next station.

  2. 2

Place a worker: You can send a worker to any Base Location, red Destination card, the Forge, the Hot Springs, or a Mountain Beacon, as long as it is not blocked by snow or another worker. If there is snow, you must spend 1 Fire to clear it first. If you use the Ranger, you can visit an already occupied location, or gain 1 Fire if you go alone.

  3. 3

Play a card: Pays the cost in resources. If it's a Creature, you can play it for free using one of your 2 Hearths, as long as you have the necessary Fire to light it.

  4. 4

Prepare station: When all your workers are deployed, you can prepare the next station: you recover all workers, gain a new worker, and apply the effects of the new station. This introduces new snow to the board and your city

Victory conditions

  • The game ends after the spring. City cards, missions completed, snow cleared, point tokens and workers sent on trips are scored. Whoever has the most points wins.
