Setup
Place the central board with all location icons covered by site tiles face down.
Each player receives 2 workers, a player screen, and their starting deck: 2 compass cards, 2 journal cards, 1 magnifying glass, and 1 fear card.
Prepare the research card market and place the starting artifacts in the revealed artifacts row.
Shuffle the guardian cards and place one face down at each level II and III site.

TURN STRUCTURE
The active player takes one action and passes the turn. The game progresses through 5 rounds tracked on the season board.
MAIN ACTIONS
Dig
Send a worker to a new site to discover it and gain resources or artifacts

Play compass cards from your hand to advance on the research board and unlock bonuses
Buy
Acquire research cards from the central market to improve your deck
Make Camp
Return workers to your supply to reuse them this turn
GUARDIANS
Level II and III sites are blocked by a guardian that must be defeated by spending specific resources
Defeating a guardian grants immediate victory points and a special artifact
ARTIFACTS
Artifacts are played as special cards and remain active on the table for the rest of the game, providing unique abilities
RESEARCH
Advancing on the research board unlocks permanent bonuses: extra resources, additional cards, and victory points
