Setup
Place the Dragon Guild board with a randomly chosen guild tile.
Shuffle the Dragon and Cave decks separately; form the two draw decks and reveal the first 3 cards of each type on the deployment board.
Place the round marker on the first space of the round board and place 4 randomly chosen target tiles, one per round.
Give each player their personal board, with 3 spaces already excavated: Crimson Cave, Gualda Grotto and Amethyst Abyss.
Deal 3 Dragon and 3 Cave cards to each player; each chooses 4 to form the starting hand and discards the rest.
Each player chooses 3 random resources of the type they need.
Give each player 6 coins and 1 egg.
Randomize the starting player and give them the starting player marker.
GOAL
In Wyrmspan you are a novice dracologist who builds a cave sanctuary to attract dragons. Whoever gets the most victory points (VP) after 4 rounds wins.
STRUCTURE OF THE GAME
The game is played in 4 rounds. In each round, players take turns starting with the starting player and going clockwise, until everyone has passed. On each turn, a player pays at least 1 coin to do one of three actions, or passes and reserves the remaining coins for future rounds.
ACTIONS
Dig
Play a Cave card in the leftmost excavable space on your board (Crimson Cave, Gualda Grotto, or Amethyst Abyss). Pays 1 coin; if you dig the 3rd or 4th column, it also pays 1 or 2 eggs respectively
Tempt a dragon
Play a Dragon card in an already excavated and compatible space in your habitat, paying the food cost indicated on the card
Explore
Move your adventurer through a cave from left to right, activating any "on-trigger" abilities you find, until you reach the first space without a dragon or a stop sign
HAND LIMIT
At the end of each turn you can have no more than 9 coins, 9 total cards or 9 resource tokens; discard the excess.
END OF ROUND
When all players have passed, upkeep is resolved: coins and eggs paid in Excavate actions are discarded, dragons are activated with the "end of round" ability, and the round's common objective is scored. At the start of each round, each player receives 6 coins and 1 egg.
DRAGON GUILD
Certain card and personal board effects advance you through the Guild Round. By moving forward you get the reward of the box you pass through; upon reaching a shaded square, you can place a cube of your color on it to receive an instant bonus or save it for an endgame bonus.
